What Kind of Parent Do You Want To Be?

I’ve been thinking more lately about what I would love my home to look like 5 years from now. The older boys would be 15 by then, and I’ve been realizing that I have a pretty clear picture in my head of what kind of Mom I want to be…what kind of relationship I want to have with the boys and their friends….and what I want the house to be like.

Interestingly, that picture is SO totally unrelated to the person I was ten years ago it’s not even funny. It’s also still a bit distant from who I am today. I’m realizing that if I want to be that person, I have to continue to grow and change as well as intentionally plan to get there.

So what about you? What do you want your household and parenting to look like 5 years from now? How far off is that from where you are today? What changes will you need to make to get there?

I’ll give you my answers to those questions in the comments shortly. :) See you there!

TechnoBoy and The Mercenary were discussing the fact that the neighbor kids have a much nicer in-ground swimming pool as compared to our above ground temporary one, yet they don’t swim in it very often. My boys are in the pool daily, and The Mercenary commented that if he had a [...]

Homeschooling Issues and Some Future Fruit Posts

Hey Internets, I forgot to tell you about my post over at GNMParents last Friday. It’s all about a surprise homeschooling issue we have run into of late. My first instinct was to go right over and say something serious like “don’t pick on my kid” but well…you know. Figuring out what [...]

What’s Your Control Freak Factor?

I had an interesting conversation with a father the other day. His boys are ages 3 and 5, and the dad was telling me how much his sons love to help set the table at mealtime. Both boys are pretty passionate about it, to the point that if an adult carries a plate [...]

Pouty Pete and the Power Pinky

The Manager has been experimenting with pouting lately. It hasn’t been working out too well, as his sense of humor is developing nicely thankyouverymuch. I usually can get him laughing quickly thus foiling his dastardly pouting plot.
Today he tried it again, and I called him Pouty Pete. (I don’t know what started [...]

They Grow Too Fast

It suddenly hit me the other day; I don’t have little kids anymore.
Have you had that realization yet? Click on over to GNMParents to read the rest and tell me about your experience.

Reason #482 Why Defensive Thinking is Critical to Parenting

With the onset of warm weather, the boys are anxiously awaiting the day when the pool is set up and ready to use. Hubby and I have made an effort to make the back yard a fun place to be, with swings and a sandbox, the pool, and this year we added a new [...]
