Encouraging Heroes. You can be one too.

Who doesn’t love an opulent Mardi Gras celebration? Celebrated around the world, this amazing bash is a great opportunity for people of all ages to dress up in their most outrageous costumes and have a great time. Mardi gras parties are all about dancing, sports competitions, social conventions, and parades. This time of the year kids have the chance to dress up in their favorite hero and participate in the most entertaining gatherings. If you’re a devoted parent with a weakness for Mardi Gras parties and you’re thinking of throwing one, here’s what you need to do:

Find a location
Every Mardi Gras party needs a location. Kids love unconventional spots, so you can talk with the rest of the parents and pick a really cool place such as the park for example or the back of your house if you have enough space. Your next step is to fill that place with lots of balloons, entertaining games, hanging piƱatas, healthy snacks, and music.

Choosing the costume
Kids love masquerade parties because they’re fun, cool, and exciting. Since we’re talking about costume gatherings, every kid will want to look unique. Boys may want to dress like Batman and Spiderman, while girls will most likely want to be Cinderella. Let them make their choice, and start looking for the most interesting costume. The market is packed with both local and online stores from where you can purchase masquerade costumes for kids, so buying is definitely much more convenient than making.

The Mask
No Mardi Gras celebration is complete without an appropriate masquerade mask. Kids love color, so as a parent you must let them make the design choice. Whether they want to wear the Batman mask or become a real-life harlequin with a purple-gold festive mask, one thing’s for sure: the goal is to make them feel confident and have fun.

Since we’re talking about Mardi Gras parties for kids, you should invest in masks that can tie at the back with an elastic band or ribbons. Children will want to play and dance all day long, so wearing a mask on a stick is certainly not a smart way disguise their identity.

If you have a really picky child who doesn’t like any mask ready for purchase from the store, you can start a DIY project together. Making Mardi Gras masks for your toddler can be such a fun process. Here’s what you need:

  • Mask pattern (download a pattern from the web; let your kid pick one)
  • Card stock
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Paintbrush
  • Feathers
  • Glitter
  • Marker
  • Decorative elements: rhinestones, ribbons, puffy paint, sequins, etc.

After your kid has picked the pattern for the mask, grab a pair of scissors and cut the cardboard in the shape of the mask. Paint the whole mask in one or more colors using a brush; to make the process engaging do it together with your children.

Have fun. Let the mask dry for a couple of hours before adding feathers and sequins. If your girl wants to be a princess, she’s going to use every rhinestone available to make her Mardi Gras mask look unique, so you’ll need a lot of patience to complete this process successfully.

Like parents, like children
Although you’re organizing a Mardi Gras celebration for your kids, this doesn’t mean you can’t have fun. Design a mask for yourself too; or better yet, let your kids make one for you. The process will be a messy one, that’s for sure, and the end result might not be exactly perfect. However, you will have to wear it with a big smile on your face to make them happy.

Kid-friendly parties can be so entertaining even for tired parents who have worked for days to create the perfect costume and most amazing masquerade mask. The good news is your toddlers will be overjoyed, and that’s the most important aspect. Who doesn’t want to see their kids running around, having fun, dancing, and laughing on a Mardi Gras celebration? It’s a blissful time of the year, so you should make the most of it.
