Encouraging Heroes. You can be one too.

If you’re a long-time reader of this blog, you know that I have spent many an hour fretting-and writing-about how much time the boys spend in front of screens. We’ve reached a rather uneasy peace over the years; the boys leave them off until 2pm and they participate in sports or other activity. And if you stopped by yesterday, you could have heard my “you need to improve your diet” routine. It’s a classic.

All that to say that protecting their health (physical, emotional, and mental) is important to me. What they do now does affect how they develop in the future, whether it’s habits or actual health.

I know. It’s easy to get preachy with all that, in’nt it? Sigh.

The good news is, that plenty of other adults also possess wisdom, and the good folks at the Will Rogers Institute have launched a campaign called Kid Fit. There’s a public service announcement encouraging kids to get moving for at least 60 minutes per day. Also, you can get tips on the proper amounts of sleep, ideal caloric intake, and games that motivate kids (and adults!) to move and lead healthier lives.

There’s even a free booklet called Fitness is Fun available for download or you can get a copy by calling (877) 957-7575.
