Encouraging Heroes. You can be one too.

I bet you didn’t know that today is the first day of National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. It is! This month serves as an opportunity to highlight the importance of exercise and sports. Because those are important for all of us. As a 40-something, I’m finding that without some serious exercise (daily-blech), I can’t maintain my girlish figure. (I’m still trying to decide how important that really is. Right now, the body image is losing out to chocolate. Just sayin’.)

Annnnyhow. Being fit is super important, and we all should exercise. Even me. Yuck.

So, there are a couple of things we can do to celebrate the month. There’s a month-long conversation happening on Twitter. Just use the hash tag #FitnessMonth, and of course please follow @FitnessGov.

Then, you can pledge to earn the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award (Activity + Nutrition). This award is code named PALA+. You can earn PALA+ by being active 30 minutes a day, five days a week for six out of eight weeks. For children/youth, the goal is 60 minutes per day. You also commit to one new healthy eating goal each week. All the details are available at Fitness.gov

I’ve been so terrible on the whole fitness thing, I probably should take the pledge. I’ll think about it. 🙂 I AM actually exercising, really. And I love veggies. Soooo, yea. I’ll think about it. How about you?

Earnest Parenting: help for parents who want to celebrate National Physical Fitness and Sports Month.

Disclosure: I wrote this post after being contacted by a representative of Ogilvy Washington. She simply told me about the event; I chose to write about it. Because being fit is a good thing. Even if I don’t know about that whole taking the pledge thing. I’m thinking about it.
