Encouraging Heroes. You can be one too.

These placeholders are cute, so much fun to make, and they can even be eaten after your Thanksgiving dinner. Kids love making this craft, and they look fantastic at the kids’ Thanksgiving table. What child wouldn’t want this candy turkey as their placeholder? (But make sure they eat their dinner first!)

Supplies:

  • Double Stuffed Oreo Cookies
  • Frosting
  • Whoppers
  • Candy Corns
  • Peanut Butter Cups
  • Sharp knife
  • Toothpicks, tape, paper and markers

1. Fill the side of the Oreo cookie with a 1-inch strip of frosting for the candy corns to adhere to.

2. Stuff 5 candy corns white-side down into the Oreo where you put the frosting. Allow the frosting to dry. This can take around 5-10 minutes (each step will take this long, so the frosting can dry).

3. Frost the top of the cookie, and place a second Oreo on top of the first, facing up. Allow the frosting to dry completely.

4. Add a strip of frosting at the base of the upright cookie, and cut a small strip off the Peanut Butter Cup. Attach it to the frosting and let it dry. This is the turkey’s body.

5. Add dabs of frosting to the top of the Peanut Butter Cup and the cookie. Attach the Whopper to make the turkey’s head. Allow the frosting to dry completely.

6. Cut the white tip off a candy corn to act as the turkey’s beak. Attach the beak with frosting. Use the frosting to create the turkey’s eyes. You can use a sprinkle or Oreo Cookie crumb for the center of the eyes.

7. Write guests’ names on your papers and attach to a toothpick with glue or tape. Carefully stick the toothpick into the center candy corn.

These placeholders are adorable, and they’re so much fun to make with your kids. In addition, they’re inexpensive enough to make one for each guest coming for dinner or your Thanksgiving party. Get a group of kids together, and guide each child through the steps to create each of your guests an amazing, edible placeholder for your table!
