Encouraging Heroes. You can be one too.

John Fuller, the cohost of Focus on the Family’s Daily Broadcast, has written a book especially for men who are looking at fatherhood for the first time. John is the father of six (6!!) children, so he’s got quite a bit of experience and authority on the subject.

There are 12 chapters in this 163-page book. It begins with some of what to expect during pregnancy and moves on to discuss what’s really important in fathering. From there, the book gives much sage advice about how to be a great dad, what to expect when baby actually arrives, and moves into some solid marriage advice. Women change when they become mothers, and men need to understand that. It helps the relationship remain stable.

Beginning in chapter 8, the book moves on to discuss the differences between sons and daughters, how to help your child succeed in life, and most importantly, how to build and maintain a close relationship with your children. Chapter 11 teaches how to help your children develop spiritually, with a list of 4 things you can do to help them grow closer to God while you have them. Chapter 12 is titled Blink, and reminds all of us that children are ours for such a short time. Only 18 years and they’re off on their own.

Sigh. It really does go too fast.

Anyway! The wonderful news is that I’ve been given 2 copies of this book to give away! If you’re a first-time dad, or if you know someone who’s looking at fatherhood, this is a great read. All you need to do to enter is leave a comment below this post. I’ll choose a winner in one week, on Wednesday August 3, 2011. Giveaway ends that day at 11:59pm EST.

2 winners will be chosen randomly and I’ll mail you your book. Hopefully this will happen before I head out to Cub Scout camp. Please hope with me.
