Encouraging Heroes. You can be one too.

I’ve written about the Fresh Air Fund in the past because the service they provide just warms my heart. What they do is provide summer opportunities for kids from the inner city to experience life in the country or suburbs; places they would otherwise never visit.

The Friendly Town program works like this: host families invite a child to stay in their home in the country or suburbs for up to two weeks. In 2009, almost 5000 children were able to take advantage of this opportunity. If a child does well with his host family, he can be invited back the following summer for a repeat visit. There have been cases where children return to the same host family year after year, building memories and relationships that last a lifetime.

If you live in the Northeastern United States or Eastern Canada (see the site for exact areas) you could be a host family this summer. If not, you can make a donation to help the program. Sarah from the Fresh Air Fund wrote to tell me that due to the generosity of a particular benefactor, all donations made before June 30 will be doubled!

Say, since this is such a great cause, wouldja be willing to Stumble, Tweet, or Facebook this post? I’d love to see the good folks at Fresh Air get extra help and publicity for their efforts.

Thanks!
