Most have been submitted by other users who like them, and some are there because people pay to have them show up in the stumbles. I've found some I don't like, and quite a few that I do. If you give a site a thumbs-up, it automatically gets listed on your SU homepage. You can add tags to it as well, so it's easier to find later. Sometimes I vote up a page because it's nice, and other times because I know I'll want to use that information again. If I'm going to want to find it again I try to make sure that I put a tag on it that I can remember like "history" or "crafts" or whatever.
