Encouraging Heroes. You can be one too.

Happy New Year, everyone. I’m a little behind the times on offering up that wish. Sorry. 🙂 Lots of busy-ness here at Earnest Parenting. Tomorrow (or today, if you’re reading this at a normal hour on Friday) I am hosting ten (10!!) children. I’ve got 6 of them already, the additional 4 will be here in the morning for the day. Wish me luck!

Back to business. A friend of mine mentioned recently that rather than set resolutions in January, you do it in December. Here. I’ll let you see it in her own words:

JUST A THOUGHT: think back on all your major accomplishments for the year 2007. Did you learn new skills? Get better habits? Lose some weight? Get financially in better shape? Take good care of your kids/ Stand up to someone you needed to?

Sit down and write us a list. Brag away. And THEN: you can call it your 2007 New Year’s Resolutions. Then cross them ALL OFF!! Woo Hoo!

This is what I do each year. I’ve had it with planning resolutions and then being mad at myself. So I just write all my good stuff down, back-date it and call it a success! Cheating? I don’t think so. It’s a matter of opinion.

Me again. What a great gift to give yourself and your children each year! Rather than setting an example of making and dropping resolutions, what if we teach our kids to take stock of their accomplishments and pat themselves on the back?

If you decide to join me on the reverse resolution, leave a quick comment telling how it went. I’m planning to do it with Hubby and the boys soon. We’ve got a few crazy days ahead (did I mention TEN children here in the morning?), but I think I can safely predict that life will calm down soon. Right? I can predict that. Right. Yes. Okay.

Happy New Year.

Heartfelt thanks to Kate for her fantastic idea.
