Encouraging Heroes. You can be one too.

Have you ever gotten to the point in life where you just couldn’t think anymore? Where your head literally felt fuzzy when you tried to process even one thought? I have to admit, I got there today. I’ve been processing a lot of paperwork and answering a lot of questions this week in addition to the usual school and home responsibilities. On top of that, I spend a good deal of time every day reading: other blogs, news stories, school books and the like. I consume just a ton of information on a daily basis.

Well today my head got full.

Here in Michigan the weather is turning colder and the days are getting gloomier, which doesn’t inspire many bursts of energy. I’ve been looking at the flowerbeds and letting the fact that I hadn’t cleaned them out yet weigh on me. Today after a more difficult school day (had to be a little pushy to keep people on task) I sent the boys out to play. Then I had my lunch and caught up on e-mails and took myself outdoors to chop up some foliage.

Boy, that felt good! At first I was really cold, but a couple of wheelbarrow loads of weeds and spent flowers later I was actually getting hot. Now the front of the house is trimmed back neatly, and I got started on my large front flowerbed. It’s already darkening out, so I just did 2 loads from there and quit for the day. Hopefully the weather will cooperate enough for the next few days that I can get out there and finish the job.

Of course, then I’ll have to come up with other reasons to force myself out the door regularly. Perhaps I’ll con the boys into going on walks around the neighborhood with me.

In the meantime, my brain is running a little clearer now, and I’m not feeling as grumpy as I was. The boys are playing nicely, I’ve just snuck a bite of brownie without getting caught, and I got to spend an hour out enjoying God’s creation.

Jeremiah 31:25 For I satisfy the weary ones and refresh everyone who languishes.
